Technology versus media

Explain the difference between technology and media. What is the role of each in K-12 eLearning environments?

If technology is the how of eLearning, media is the what.  Technology provides the tools of the trade.  Media is a transportation system. It's a way to get thought, ideas, projects, games, lessons, etc. from one place to another.  I use technology when I use my desktop computer (technology) to design a lesson.  I put it together in a power point (media) presentation that I store on my thumb drive (media).  I bring it to school and put it in my laptop (technology) to present on my SMART broad (technology) to my students.

Both are critically important in eLearning.  Without the technology, we couldn't find or use the media. Without the media, we couldn't put together our thoughts and lessons.  The are both fundamentally important and play integral roles in eLearning.
